Sleeping Bear
Dunes National Park
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
|
| A 35-mile stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern
coastline, including forests, beaches, dune formations, and ancient
glacial phenomena. The Lakeshore begins about 15 miles from Frankfort
is a very nice day-trip. It includes dozen of Lake Michigan access points
(which offer parking, trails and usually very secluded beaches) and
passes through several nice towns. One of our favorites stops is in
Empire, where we like to visit Joe's Friendly Tavern for soup,
cheeseburgers and fried smelt.
